About Course

The department of MA-Human Resource Management (HRM) was established in 2012 to offer strategic training in the management functions in business environment. HRM prepares students with management skills to function as human resource professionals in a variety of settings such as government agencies, health care, financial institutions, business and industry. This course provides training in the principles of Human Resources management. This Course follows 21 subjects prescribed by University of Madras in 4 semesters, which has a strong managerial orientation and strategic focus on the main areas of HRM as well as the present day issues related to the discipline.

Our Vision To facilitate students inlearning Human Resource functions and to make them realize the growing opportunities in Human Resource Management.
Our Mission To develop Human Resource leaders through quality education by theory and practicum in functional and strategic human resource management in organizational environments.
Objectives This course is built around the following course objectives,
1. To provide the students with an in-depth understanding of various concepts and functions in HR.
2. To help students understand and apply best practices for employment and relevant legal and reporting requirements.
3. Synthesize understanding from the course through the development or revision of an organization's Staff Policy Manual.

Activities

OREO 2016

An Interactive Expo was organized by the Department of HRM which is based on corporate culture, and personality enrichment skills. The students our college had eagerly participated won prizes in the competitions. Cash awards were given for the event winners and runners.

CLEANLINESS CAMPAIGN

The campaign for Cleanlinesswas organized by HRM and MSW about the Plastics and awareness in our college on 24th August 2015. Motto of the Campaign is “LET US NOT LAMINATE OUR MOTHER EARTH”. Awareness such as these on Ecology is a mandatory for our environmental changes

FLOOD RELIEF SERVICE

Voluntary flood relief for the 2015 Chennai Flood victims was organized by the staff and students of HRM Department which brought out humanity and genuine love for society. The service rendered to the victims of the flood was indisputably appreciated by all and has amplified the societal responsibility among the student community.

a. Industrial Visits:

COCA COLA COMPANY-2017

Industrial visits give to students, greater clarity about important management concepts and practices as they practically experience how these concepts are put into action. We visited Hindustan Coca Cola Beverages Pvt. Ltd. in Chennai on 15th December 2017 to help our students become more aware of industry practices and regulations. Industry visits broaden the outlook of students with exposure to different workforces and bridges the gap between theoretical training and practical learning in a real-life environment

HATSUN- 2016

These visits are organized to help the students to collaborate the theoretical aspects of the course to practical applicability. The students of HRM, MSW and Corporate Secretaryship were taken for a visit to HATSUN AGRO Office and factory in Chennai in 2016. The insights from the visit will enhance wholistic learning and promote leverage in student performance.

b. Conferences:

INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE: 2016

The two day conference on ‘Social Responsibility, Ethics and Sustainability’ was conducted by the Department of HRM and MSW on 27th& 28thJanuary in 2016.Ethics and Social Responsibility as individuals and as business managers was insistently inculcated to the participants. This conference has ensured that the student community will act in Ethical conduct to have social responsibility and advance in its sustainability

STATE LEVEL WORKSHOP ON INNOVATION & ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT

This one day workshop was organized on 3rd December 2016 with the objectiveto give students a framework and some tools for evaluating an entrepreneurial venture and for constructing a plan to pursue the opportunity. We had over 100 participants from 6 different colleges. The event was graced by 7 resource persons who shared effectively principles and their experience in entrepreneurial ventures. Students were instructed and motivated to be successful entrepreneurs.

SPECIAL LECTURE

One day seminar on the 'Impact of Information Technology in Human Resource' was held on 9th March 2017 in college Auditorium. Mr. Joy Samuel, Professor of BBA in Loyola college shared in this seminar. We were exposed to the possibilities of IT assistance in HRM and the scope of Human Resource management in It companies. This interactive seminar also enabled the students to focus on the software, programs related to HRM and trainings available for development.

INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR ON BRANDS

An International Seminar on 'Brand Management' was conducted by Bethany Hamptons (USA), a Brand Ambassador for P&G Group on 17th March 2017. Foundational training was given on Strategic Planning, Brand Development, Equity Management and Marketing. Several commercial advertisements were analyzed and their equity was discussed. There was an panel discussion that students participated to practice the skills in brand management.

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT - GUEST LECTURE

The need for Leadership Development and skills to enhance situational Leadership was taught to our student by the expert in the field, Dr. PrashantJothi, Prof. in D.G.Vishnava College on 25th October 2017. Stress management, Employee retention and maximizing output were clarified. Students were taught to approach interview confidently and to develop creative resume. All our students were exposed to present job opportunities and gained skills and competence in interview proceedings.

GUEST LECTURE

Guest Lecturer Dr. R.Jayam, Prof. in Dr. M.G.R. University conducted an interactive session on “Emerging Trends in Human Resource Management” on 14th Feb 2018. She inspired and edified our students on the topic

WORKSHOP ON "COMPETENCY MAPPING"

Competency Mapping is a process of identifying key competencies for an organization and incorporating those competencies throughout the various processes.On 19th December 2017, Dr. PrashantJothi, Prof. in D.G.Vishnava College taught this interactive workshop engaging students in hands on practical exercise to develop maps, scale and strategies.Our students were encouraged and motivated to excel in their managerial skills and personal development.
